My Story

(in descending order)

OREGON

I thought transitioning to Oregon would be a tall order. Oh how I was wrong. In just a few short weeks the eclectic spirit of Portland won me over. Better yet (for me anyway), the wilds of Oregon’s mountains, rivers and lakes, and stormswept coast connected flawlessly with the outdoor lifestyle I’ve embraced for some time.

With virtually no contacts, I edged my way in professionally as a freelance writer for Resource Recycling magazine and as a part-time writer for MasterPlans—a business plan development agency.

I then worked as a copywriter at Quango Inc—a Portland-based digital marketing agency—developing copy and executing creative campaigns for tech clients like Intel , VMware, and AWS.

In 2018, I transitioned into the wellness market, working as the lead in-house copywriter, content strategist, and social media manager for PrimeMyBody—a leader in hemp extracts and botanical supplements.

HAWAI’I

Following my undergrad years, I made the bold move to venture off to Hawai’i. Oahu to be exact. What was supposed to be a one year “break” to figure out my career path turned into 10-plus years of professional and personal growth on an island I’ll always call home.

During my time in Hawai’i I completed my graduate degree at Hawai’i Pacific University, began my writing career as a reporter at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and MidWeek Weekly, transitioned into freelance work, and taught journalism and media education courses at HPU and the University of Hawaii community college system.

It’s also where I met my incredible wife—who proceeded to make her own bold move, moving to Portland with me in 2016.

NEW YORK CITY

After high school I attended Manhattan College in New York City. While earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication, I also contributed stories to the student magazine and interned at various media companies, including College Sports TV.

HURLEY

Farm and mountain country of Hurley, New York is where my story begins. It’s where I delivered newspapers by bicycle as a pre-teen. It’s where I played high school basketball and soccer. It’s where I was student council vice president.

And it’s where my interest for writing, mostly through reading, began.
